Collections tell the story
The collections of the Craft Museum of Finland tell about the history and present of Finnish crafts, craftsmanship and related phenomena.
40 years in Jyväskylä
The Craft Museum of Finland was launched in Jyväskylä on 10.6.1983. The museum's collections contain memories of exhibitions, exhibition openings, work demonstrations, lectures and events as well as pictures of everyday work from the first years of operation in Central Finland.
First craft collections
The museum's first acquisitions represent "valid and high-quality craft products from all sectors and all parts of Finland", as well as "foreign craft products of such quality that they can be used as models for handicrafts in Finland". The appropriations for the craft museum were received by order of the Imperial Senate on 14 December 1888.
Model Costumes of The National Costume Center of Finland
The National Costume Center of Finland has a large collection of model costumes containing more than 1,000 individual items, some of which are catalogued. The information on women's national costumes now published is based on research material generated in connection with costume revisions and the compilation of new costume models.
The collections of the Craft Museum of Finland contain objects, photographs, audiovisual material and archival material related to the phenomena of crafts and craftsmanship. The collections include material from craft enterprises and associations, as well as from private craftsmen and craftswomen. The collection also includes photographs from the museum's own exhibitions and events. Only a small part of the museum's collections has been published in Finna.
The images published by the Museum in Finna are suitable for online use and are available free of charge for non-commercial purposes. Please remember to indicate the source (Suomen käsityön museo/skm.finna.fi) and the name of the photographer, if known. If you would like to purchase a print-quality image, cannot find what you are looking for or have any other questions, please send a message via the feedback link or contact the museum's information service at: email@example.com

Craft Museum of Finland
The Craft Museum of Finland, the Conservation Center and the National Costume Center of Finland form a national museum responsible for the crafts sector, whose mission is to record, preserve and disseminate Finnish craft culture and related phenomena, the history and tradition of crafts, and knowledge and skills.
Craft Stories and Memories
The Craft Museum of Finland records various stories, memories and experiences of handicrafts. The memories complement the museum's collections and tell the story of everyday craftsmanship. You can share your own memories with us or check out the stories already on the website.
The Collections Map
The collections map will gradually be updated with information on the museum's collections, organised by sub-collection. These collections often cannot yet be browsed in Finna. The service, run by the TAKO network of museums, is a tool for museums to outline and present the content and priorities of their own collections.
